Learn the Benefits of Coconut Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling is a practice of swirling oil around your mouth and then spitting it out. Rinsing should be continued for perhaps 5 to 20 minutes, so that the edible oil is pulled through the teeth and mouth. The most popular oils used for oil pulling are coconut oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, and olive oil. And coconut oil is the best choice for oil pulling due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to balance the bacteria in the mouth.

The coconut oil pulling practice is a traditional remedy that originated from Ayurvedic medicine in India. It has become popular after its benefits were extolled online. Now, let’s learn the benefits of it.

* Reduce the risk of gingivitis
Regular oil pulling might help you avoid the challenging and potentially dangerous form of gum disease known as gingivitis

* Prevent and reverse cavities.
By supporting a balance of good-to-bad bacteria in the mouth, oil pulling may help remineralize teeth.
Your teeth are designed to rebuild (remineralize) themselves on an ongoing basis, but this remineralization is only possible in the presence of the proper nutrients and the absence of cavity-causing bacteria.
Overgrowth of harmful bacteria in your mouth, such as Streptococcus mutans, can lead to cavities.

*  Reduce oral thrush symptoms.
Coconut oil is known to have antifungal properties, so it helps to kill Candida living in the mouth. A previous study found that coconut oil pulling is a very cost-effective and easy way to reduce oral thrush symptoms.

*  Fix bad breath.
Oil pulling can support your saliva’s efforts in disorganizing bacteria without killing the good bacteria and drying your mouth out.

Suggestions for oil pulling:

  1. Floss and brush your teeth before you start oil pulling.
  2. Place about 10ml of oil in your mouth.
  3. Sit upright (don’t lay down) and swish the oil around for 1-3 minutes.
  4. Spit out the oil in the trash can, not a toilet or sink (the oil can clog pipes as it hardens).
  5. Rinse your mouth.

For people who have gingivitis or gum disease, we suggest oil pull once a day to improve gum health. If you have good oral health, 1-2 times each week is enough.
